The Framework provides a clear, transparent, streamlined, and standardized approach to the redevelopment of former service station sites. It highlights the importance of a predictable and timely approvals process and provides guidance on:
- Streamlining the municipal approvals process
- Offering effective incentives
- Improving the development potential of a site
- Working with property owners to implement interim site uses when no immediate redevelopment potential exists
The Framework illustrates how municipal planning and technical decisions interact at different stages of development.
Municipalities who are in the early stages of redevelopment, such as developing an awareness of the benefits associated with brownfield redevelopment, obtaining interest and commitment from the municipal council and identifying what is needed to get started in brownfield redevelopment, should visit the Ontario Municipal Brownfields Redevelopment Toolbox for guidance on how to approach brownfield redevelopment in their communities. |
